I love TED Talks! They are a great source of inspiration, imagination and information. One that I watched recently is by Simon Sinek, and the topic is “How Great Leaders Inspire Action”. I encourage you to drop whatever it is you’re doing and watch it! It has an important message for every entrepreneur out there.
In a nutshell, Sinek talks about how to position your message so that it inspires people to listen. His words are important for all of us entrepreneurs. Think about the last time you were at a networking event and someone asked you “What do you do?” I’m betting that at the beginning (or near the beginning) of your response was “what” you do. Sinek suggests that you instead start with “why” you do what you do. Then progress to “how” you do it, and only then talk about what it is you actually do.
Sinek talks about inspirational and successful leaders, and his message is just as important for entrepreneurs, especially knowledge entrepreneurs. After all, aren’t you trying to inspire others to be transformed by your message? You want to get your message out to all those who need to hear it!
Give it a try and let me know what you think of Sinek’s approach. He must be on to something. After all, it’s one of the most viewed TED videos with almost 25 million total views!
